I was busily writing away this morning and found myself with one of those blank brain moments. I had written the word “aide” in a sentence then changed it to “aid” and back again … and, back again.
Such moments could be described as “senior moments”, as an ex-colleague of mine used to refer to them. Well, ageing brain aside, let´s refresh what can be helpful when referring to an aide or to some aid.
Aid: Means to help someone or to assist someone to do something.
Aide: Would be the person that was helping or assisting someone.
So, charities could appeal for aid towards funding a crises, you could provide first aid to an accident victim, but a frail person might need the aid of an aide in order to walk or the post of an official assistant could also be known as an aide (from aide-de-camp).
